Marketing is not a department within a business organisation. It is all embracing. Our definition of marketing that is central to the Joseph Swain Media and Marketing approach is;

'Marketing is everything an organisation does, or does not do, intentionally or unintentionally, in pursuit of it's marketing objectives that impacts on the perception of that business organisation amongst customers and potential customers, decision influencers (who we may not even know are talking about us) and staff/potential staff'.

While most organisations focus time and training on customer care and traditional marketing functions two proven statistics influence business success;

• 70% of all business lost, or new business pitches that fail, are the result of the actions of just one person in the organisation. often someone who does not perceive their role as being connected in any way with marketing
• 84% of all the decisions we all make in our lives are emotionally driven. Even when we need a product or service, our ultimate purchasing decision is usually driven by desire/emotion.

Owner Managed Businesses are usually run by a person, or people, wholly focused on working in the business rather than on the business. Even when apparently successful, many businesses can often perform even better and increase profitability by focusing on their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.

Most businesses small/medium sized businesses will benefit from the input of an objective third party with expertise and experience in key areas.
